Colossians 2.6-15

What it means to be “In Christ”

A. WHO IS CHRIST ?

1. The One who shows us God [1.15]

2. The One through whom everything was created [1.16]

3. The One who controls all things [1.17]

4. The One who has defeated death [1.18]

B. HOW DO I GET CONNECTED TO CHRIST ?

1. The source: a work of God’s sovereign grace

a. Election: God chooses us
b. Redemption: Christ dies for us
c. Effectual calling: The Holy Spirit makes us alive

2. The means: faith in the person of Christ [1.3-4a]

Romans 3.21-22; 5.1; Galatians 2.20; Ephesians 2.8-10

3. The result: a sure relationship to God [2.6-7]

a. Firmly rooted in Him
b. Being built up in Him and established in The Faith
c. Overflowing with gratitude

C. WHAT DO I GET BEING CONNTECTED TO CHRIST ?

1. Fullness [8-10]

2. Forgiveness [11-14]

a. In Him you were circumcised
b. Buried with Him
c. Raised up with Him
d. Made alive together with Him
e. A clean record and all charges dropped because of Him

3. Freedom [15]
