Sermon, December 14, 2008, Revelation 6 His Story

Revelation 6 His Story

God provides us with a vision of the whole of human history
so that we might know that HE knows what’s going on.

This is not just a picture of what will be, but what has always been and is.

A. THE DRAMA OF HISTORY [1-8]

1. The first horseman: The Gospel of Jesus Christ

2. The second horseman: War

3. The third horseman: Economic collapse

4. The fourth horseman: Death

B. THE DEMAND FOR JUSTICE [9-11]

1. This is not a picture of SOME believers who have died: disembodied spirits

2. This is a picture of ALL believers who are oppressed by the world: the church

a. Gen 4.1-10

b. 1 John 3.10-13

C. THE DAY OF WRATH [12-17]

1. God is going to make all things right

2. Who is able to stand in that day?

Lessons:

1. Don’t be surprised at how bad things are in this life

2. Don’t give up hope that one day God will make all things right

3. Until that day…be patient

Quotes of note...

In God, we live every commonplace as well as the most exalted moment of our being. To trust in Him when no need is pressing, when things seem going right of themselves, may be harder than when things seem going wrong.
