Sermon September 9, 2007 Hebrews 11.5-6 The Walk of Faith

Hebrews 11.5-6 The Walk of Faith

A. WHAT HAPPENED TO ENOCH? [5a]

1. Enoch was taken up to heaven without dying

2. Suddenly he disappeared because God took him

B. HOW DID THIS HAPPEN TO HIM? [5b]

1. He pleased God

2. He walked with God [Gen 5.24]

C. WHY DID THIS HAPPEN TO HIM? [6]

By faith…and without faith it is impossible to please Him…

1. Faith takes seriously the fact that God is really here

2. Faith takes seriously the fact that God really cares

3. Faith takes seriously the fact that God is really good

a. God has good things for us

b. God Himself is our highest good

This is the true bride of Christ, who says to Him,
I seek not what is Yours, but You Yourself.
You are not more dear to me when things go well,
nor less dear when things go poorly. [Martin Luther]

What might happen to us if we really began to live like Enoch?

Live every day with the conscious goal and desire to please Him.

Walk with Him wherever you go.

John Olson

Quotes of note...

Jesus Christ can so interfere in a human life that it can look up and say, "Bless the Lord, O my soul, and forget not all His benefits," even in the midst of sorrow or suffering.
